Safety valves are essential in two areas of classical shipbuilding. Firstly, they are used in all systems necessary for ship operation, including steam, water, fuel, and lubrication systems. Secondly, they are used in all systems required for the transportation of liquid or gaseous goods, such as chemicals, oils, and gases (LNG/LPG). In the case of FPSOs (Floating Production Storage and Offloading Units), which combine the demands of harsh maritime environments and petrochemical plants, safety valves pose a significant challenge. The focus is on ensuring corrosion protection, which is achieved through the use of materials such as duplex and specialized coating systems. Furthermore, a comprehensive documentation and inspection program is expected, and certification by ship classification societies and short delivery times for spare parts are additional requirements.
